The JW Marriott Essex House, commonly known as the Essex House, is a luxury hotel designed by Frank Grad and opened in 1931 as the Park Towers. The 44-story hotel has had several owners/operators over the years. In 2006 the Dubai Investment Group acquired the hotel and placed it under their Jumeirah Group as Jumeirah Essex House. It now operates as both a hotel and a residential condominium with about 184 unique condominium apartments and about 509 hotel rooms.
Art Deco in style, the building is immediately recognizable by its original red neon rooftop sign atop a beige-colored brick tower with numerous setbacks on its front and side façades. The building has a large entrance marquee with Art Deco-style, gilded decorative elements along its broad base. The broad lobby facing Central Park has tasteful and comfortable seating and impressive black-marble columns. The ground floor houses a large and expensive restaurant, South Gate.
The Jumeirah Essex House combines the luxury of a five-star hotel with a conveniently located home. Amenities include a 24-hour doorman, 24-hour room service, a state-of-the-art spa, a health & fitness center, and on-site housekeeping services. Residents are also provided with an onsite manager for assistance. Because of the unique nature of the hotel, no two apartments are exactly alike.
